Conservatives - Your Country Needs You

The End of New LabourThe end of New Labour

David Cameron has described the Conservative victory in Crewe and Nantwich as "a remarkable result", and one which marks "the end of New Labour".

He said the result shows that we are building "a real coalition for change in our country - not just including people who used to support the Conservative Party and who are now coming back, but including many people who have never voted Conservative before."

He stressed that while we had fought a positive campaign focusing on the issues that matter to the people of Crewe and Nantwich, Labour's campaign was "relentlessly negative":

"Their campaign didn't tell us much about the Conservative Party - but it told us a lot about the Labour Party. It was backward-looking, divisive and xenophobic."

David promised to repay the trust people are putting in our Party by using the next months to show "how we will bring the changes that people want to see in this country."

Conservatives Win Crewe and Nantwich By-ElectionConservatives win Crewe and Nantwich by-election

Edward Timpson has become the new MP for Crewe and Nantwich, after the Conservatives won Thursday's by-election.

Edward received 20,539 votes, while Tamsin Dunwoody, the Labour candidate, received 12,679, and Elizabeth Shenton, the Liberal Democrat candidate, got 6,040.

In his victory speech, Edward praised Gwyneth Dunwoody for the "pride, passion and fortitude" with which she worked for the people of Crewe and Nantwich.

He thanked the people who voted for him, saying, "I'm on your side and I won't let you down."

And he said the voters had sent a clear message that "Gordon Brown doesn't get it and the Government needs to change."

The turn-out at the election was 58.2%.
